Hauz Khas Village in New Delhi, India has emerged as the city's star hub for cafes (including the Kunzum Travel Cafe), restaurants, art galleries, fashion stores, culture and all kinds of shopping-with-a-difference. And The Rose could not have chosen a better location in town for travellers to check in to.

Tucked away down the lane in one of the furthest corners of the village, a white door opens into what is truly a boutique hotel. The designers and architects have actually converted a drab building into a joyous space. You enter a spacious lounge that extends into a cafe, a gallery space and lawns beyond. Reading books from the shelf on comfortable sofas is just one of the perks of the place.

You are surrounded by forest cover, and are a few minutes away from the Deer Park (a thick forest with walkways and gardens with resident birds and animals), the Hauz Khas lake (with its beautiful landscaping) and the medieval age Hauz Khas monuments. Amenities include Wi-Fi, all meals, airport drop-and-pick, travel bookings, laundry, daily housekeeping and more. Room types (total 11) are a choice of The Cabin, Junior Suite, Grand Suite and The Loft. The bedsheets, towels and interiors are high quality and tastefully done.

The Rose opened its doors to guests in June 2012 and is run by three Frenchmen. You can opt for both short term as well as long term accommodation, with prices starting from about Rs. 4,500 (US$ 65) to Rs. 7,000 (US$ 125). According to Francois, one of the owners, the best thing about this place was the element of surprise. "When people open this white door, they do not know what they are going to see! Most are surprised to find a guest house behind it!' he says.

The Rose also hosts musical evenings every Saturday besides many other cultural and art events - for its residents as well as for others. Truly a great place to hang around at. Do check it out, and check in if you like it.
