The Courtyard, St James' Court, A Taj Hotel, London

When our hotel first opened in 1902 it was patronised by the highest in the land, including guests of Buckingham Palace and, today, continues to retain the sophistication of bygone days, with architectural features indicating its illustrious past.
Of the many distinguishing features that add up to a regal experience, the most compelling is our award-winning Courtyard. An ornate Victorian fountain plays in a quadrangle of porches and pillars that glitter with a sea-green faience glaze. Linking the eight townhouses that surround this court is an endless frieze of figures - carved from the bricks that dance right round the quad - reputedly the longest Shakespearean sylvan frieze in the world. It makes a perfect backdrop for any gathering or event.
